MEQUON, Wis. - Senior shortstop
Brad Vosters went 3-for-5 with two RBIs, two runs scored and a stolen base as the Carroll University baseball team lost to Concordia University Wisconsin 31-11 in a nonconference game at Kapco Park on Tuesday afternoon.
It was the first loss of the season for Carroll, which was coming off a dramatic come-from-behind home-field victory in the season opener but dropped to 1-1 overall.
CUW, which improved to 1-1 overall, scored 12 runs on 10 hits in what became a decisive bottom of the first inning.
Senior catcher
TJ Pfaffle went 3-for-6 and drove in a run to help power a 19-hit offensive attack for the Pioneers. Senior center fielder
Alec Honickel and freshman designated hitter
Mason Hege each had three hits with junior left fielder
Justin Baker contributing two hits.
The Pioneers, who finished with four doubles, collected their first two runs in the top of the fifth on an RBI groundout by senior first baseman
Mitchell Massino and a run-scoring single by Pfaffle.
Carroll answered with six runs in the seventh as senior right-fielder
Dylan Callahan scored from third on a wild pitch, Baker delivered an RBI fly out, senior second baseman
Danny Glampe contributed a run-scoring single to right field, Honickel had an RBI single to left field, Vosters followed with a run-scoring single to center field and Callahan had an RBI sacrifice fly to center field.
Vosters had a run-scoring double down the right-field line and junior pinch-hitter
Matt Pestel added a two-run triple to left field in the ninth.
Junior center fielder Johannes Haakenson went 4-for-6 with a home run and five RBIs for CUW, which amassed 26 hits. Junior third baseman Sam Beers and junior second baseman Daniel Hahn each added four hits with a homer for the Falcons.
