WAUKESHA, Wis. - The Carroll University baseball team lost to North Park University 12-6 in a College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin game at Frame Park on Monday afternoon.
Carroll, which came into the contest riding the momentum of a statement-making doubleheader sweep of the Vikings, dropped to 6-8 in the highly competitive conference standings and 12-10 overall.
Dylan Callahan went 3-for-4 with a double (his team-leading 10th of the season) and a run scored to lead an eight-hit attack for the Pioneers, who finished with three extra-base hits.
North Park took advantage of the early momentum, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning and five runs in the second.
Carroll answered with three runs in the bottom of the second to trim the deficit to 8-3, highlighted by RBI sacrifice fly outs by
Benton Holly and
Danny Glampe followed by a run-scoring single to right field from
Josh Kolb.
Holly, who drove in three runs for the Pioneers, belted a two-out two-run home run (his team-best seventh of the year) in the fourth.
Carroll's final run came on a one-out RBI single by
Justin Baker in the eighth.
Scotty Starovich took the pitching loss, allowing eight runs on six hits with no strikeouts and two walks through two complete innings.
The Pioneers, who have an 8-5 home-field record this season, stranded five baserunners and committed three errors.
Jake Reinhardt went 3-for-4 with a triple, a double and two RBIs for North Park, which improved to 4-12 in conference and 9-11 overall.
Sophomore left-hander Bobby Bartlett earned the victory, yielding five runs on six hits with three strikeouts and two walks through six innings.
