Waukesha, Wis. – The Carroll University women's tennis team was hosted the North Central Cardinals on Saturday afternoon at the Jean Kilgour-Trailblazer Tennis Complex. The Pioneers lost its second straight match by a score of 0-9, to fall to 4-4 in the CCIW and 6-4 overall.
In doubles,
Francesca Grimes and
Rachel Papp competed against the No. 1 and No. 6 singles. The two put up a fight but fell 2-8.
Lora Leach on her senior day competed with
Carolyn Merkatoris, but dropped the No. 2 doubles match 2-8.
Grace Krueger and
Maya Gaedtke lost 1-8 to the No. 1 doubles team for the Cardinals.
In singles, Gaedtke started slowly in set one, falling 0-6. She put up a fight in set number two, not going down without a fight before falling 4-6. Krueger dropped her matchup in the No. 1 singles spot 1-6, 1-6.
Clare Veranth showed grit, putting up points in both sets before losing 2-6, 1-6. Papp (0-6, 1-6), Merkatoris (0-6, 0-6), and Leach (1-6, 1-6) all fell in straight sets as well.
Carroll prepares for the CCIW Conference Championships beginning on Tuesday, April 27. The Pioneers will travel to Millikin, as the fifth seed in the 2021 tournament.
