Decatur, Ill. – The Carroll University women's tennis team fell in the first round of the CCIW championship tournament on Tuesday afternoon. The Pioneers fell by an official score of 0-5.
In doubles,
Lora Leach and
Maya Gaedtke served as the number one pairing. They faced a close matchup, but fell 4-8.
Madison Ostrander returned and played with
Carolyn Merkatoris in the #2 spot, and kept it close with their opponents. They, unfortunately, dropped the match 5-8.
Rachel Papp and
Francesca Grimes lost the #3 doubles spot 3-8.
In singles, Gaedtke stepped into the one spot but was defeated 1-6, 1-6. Ostrander's #2 singles match was cut short by a withdrawn match after falling the first set 4-6. Leach, Merkatoris, Papp, and
Clare Veranth all left their matches unfinished, which does not count as win or loss.
The Pioneers finished the season 6-5 and 4-4 in the CCIW.
