Pioneers swept by Wheaton in CCIW home-field doubleheader

Callahan becomes first player in program history to reach prestigious career mark of 100 RBIs

WAUKESHA, Wis. - The Carroll University baseball team was swept by Wheaton College 12-9 and 6-4 in a sunny, cool College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin doubleheader at Frame Park on Wednesday afternoon.
Carroll dropped to 10-14 in the conference standings and 16-16 overall.
It was a history-making day for Dylan Callahan, who became the first player in program history to reach the prestigious milestone of 100 career runs batted in.
Callahan, a senior from Sheboygan, Wis. who currently has 27 RBIs on the season, accomplished the memorable feat in the opener as he delivered a run-scoring double to right-center field in the bottom of the third inning.
The previous long-standing career mark of 98 RBIs was established by Chris Elliot (2006-2009).

Carroll scored its first run in the bottom of the first on a game-tying RBI single to left field by Mitchell Massino.
Wheaton answered with two runs in the top of the third to regain a 3-1 lead.

Wheaton responded with a single run in the fourth and three runs in the momentum-shifting fifth to take a 7-3 lead.
The Pioneers attempted to rally in the fifth, scoring two runs on an RBI double to right-center field by Baker and an RBI single to center field by Nick Angus.
Wheaton added a single run in the sixth and four in what became a decisive seventh to extend the lead to 12-5, including a game-changing three-run home run by Jesse Welch who finished 4-for-5 with four RBIs and three runs scored in the contest.
Carroll pieced together a four-run rally, highlighted by a run-scoring single to center field by Angus and a three-run homer to left field by Benton Holly (his team-leading ninth of the season) but couldn't get any closer.
Callahan, Brad Vosters, Massino, Angus and Holly each had two hits for the Pioneers.
