Elmhurst, Ill. – The Carroll University women's tennis team picked up its third straight win, and fifth of its first seven, against the Bluejays of Elmhurst University on Monday afternoon. The Pioneers were victorious in all but one match, winning 8-1.
In doubles, the two tandems of
Grace Krueger &
Madison Ostrander, and
Maya Gaedtke &
Lora Leach both handled their opponents, by scores of 8-3 and 8-1, respectively.
Carolyn Merkatoris and Frankie Grimes fought a close match, but fell (3) 7-8.
In singles, all Pioneers walked away with wins in straight sets.
Clare Veranth recorded her first win of the season, talling a 6-0, 6-1 finish. Merkatoris' match took the longest, against an opponent who put up a strong fight, but she pulled away to take a 6-4, 6-2 win. Krueger moved to 6-1 this season with a tight first set 7-5, but ran away with it 6-0 in the second set. Gaedtke (6-3, 6-0), Ostrander (6-0, 6-0), and Leach (6-2, 6-0) handled their matches on the way to a CCIW win.
Carroll will return home against Carthage on April 16, for a 3:30 match at the Kilgour Trailblazer Courts.
