Wheaton, Ill. – The Carroll University men's tennis team competed on Saturday morning at Wheaton College in the final match before the CCIW Tournament begins. The Pioneers fell 0-9 to the Thunder.
In doubles,
Lucas Nay and
Brian Trefliek gave the #1 doubles pairing a run for their money, but fell in a close match 5-8.
Luke Barter and
Ryan Strupp sat in the #2 pairing, but lost 0-8. The Pios had to forfeit the #3 doubles match.
In singles, Nay kept it close in both matches in the #1 spot, finishing with a 4-6, and 3-6 loss. Trefliek got a match point on Jack Wenzel in the #2 spot, but finished 1-6, 0-6. Barter and Strupp faced a similar challenge, with both falling 1-6, 0-6.
Chris Jensen in the #5 spot was defeated 0-6, 0-6, and the Pioneers did not have enough players on Friday to have a #6 singles match, falling by forfeit.
The Pioneers will see the No. 1 seeded North Central Cardinals on Tuesday May 4
th for the first round of the CCIW Men's Tennis Championship Tournament. The winners of the tournament will have an AQ bid to the NCAA Tournament.
