DECATUR, Ill. - The Carroll University men's tennis team opened the 2021-2022 season by competing in the two-day Millikin Fall Invitational at Fairview Park Tennis Complex over the weekend.
Jordan Nowell won two singles matches to lead Carroll, defeating Millikin's Josiah Bailey 6-4, 5-7 (10-7 in the super tiebreaker) and Illinois Wesleyan's Josh Cortez 5-7, 6-4 (10-6).
Luke Barter finished 1-2 overall for the Pioneers, defeating Millikin's Justin Caldwell in straight sets 6-4, 6-0.
Ben Pierson also went 1-2 in the competition, earning a straight-set victory over Augustana's Emilio Rodriguez 7-6 (7-4), 7-4.
Ryan Strupp and Jack McCaffery earned the team's lone victory in doubles, defeating Illinois Wesleyan's Cortez and Jordan Sibley-Diggs 8-5.
