Women’s Soccer Celebrates Seniors with a Win

The Pioneers remain unbeaten at home

WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Carroll University women's soccer team celebrated the careers of 11 seniors today at Schneider Stadium, after the conclusion of the 2-0 victory over Finlandia. Sophomore Kenzie Blau and Senior Susie Lai scored for the Pioneers.

The Pioneers (6-1-1, 0-0 CCIW) bounce right back into the win column with their 20 shot affair against the Lions. The Pioneers defense held strong, allowing just two shots to the Lions, and holding them to just 34% possession for the game. Blau and Elizabeth Weinberg led Carroll in shots with four apiece. The Pioneers had 20 corner kicks, ten each half, and held Finlandia to none.

Carroll allowed the first shot of the game for the Lions at the 4th minute mark, and didn't allow another shot until the 90th minute of the game. One of the Pios' ten corner kicks in the first half finally led to a Blau goal, who played a deflected ball off a defender from just inside the 18-yard box, and placed it to the right side with her left foot in the 34th minute. Carroll held possession for 71% of the first half.

Lai scored her first career goal in a scrum of Finlandia players after finding an open space on the high side of the goal. The Pioneers took the 2-0 lead in the 67th minute. Carroll began to bring its senior class to finish out the game, including seniors Haley Brown, Kaitlyn Zanon, Maddie Belo, Stephanie Zachemski, Tara Bahr, Alyssa Stuckart, Lai, Joy Hueber, Kaitlyn Shanks, Jamie Elenbaas, and Samantha Gleason. The 11th senior Mattie Pusateri was inactive for the game.

Carroll will play its third WIAC team this Wednesday night, as the Pioneers host UW-Stevens Point at 7 PM. The Pios and Pointers last played to a 0-0 2OT tie in 2019.
