ALBION, Mich. – The Carroll University men's soccer team scored three unanswered goals within three minutes in the second half to defeat Albion 3-2 on Sunday afternoon. Sophomore
Josh Gonzaga netted two goals in 44 seconds to tie the match, and Sophomore
Ethan Pequignot scored the game winner 1:22 later.
The Pioneers (2-1, 0-0 CCIW) are cementing themselves as a second half team, after collecting 13 shots in the second half compared to seven in the first. The Pios doubled the amount of shots as Albion, by 20-9. Pequignot and
Julius Marks combined for 10 of Carroll's 20 shots.
Albion jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the 18
th minute after a Pio foul game the Brits Possession. Another goal was scored in the 37
th minute by Albion, taking the wind out of the Pio sails.
Gonzaga scored his first of the game after Pequignot's shot was saved by the keeper, and Gonzaga was in the right place at the right time. After the Albion kickoff, the Pios quickly regained possession, and a cross from
Ryan Coughlin led Gonzaga to his second goal of the game. Pequignot quickly broke away less than two minutes later to give the Pios the lead. Carroll was able to play keep way late in the second half to prevent any Albion scores.
The Pioneers head back to Wisconsin and open their home portion of their schedule on Wednesday, September 7, to face Edgewood at 7 PM.
