WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Carroll University men's soccer team won decisively against Edgewood College in its home opener on Wednesday night. The Pioneers rolled to a 3-1 victory over the eagles.
Ethan Pequignot scored and assisted on a goal to record three-points for Carroll.
The Pioneers (3-1, 0-0 CCIW) took 34 shot attempts this evening, 16 in the first half and 18 in the second. 34 shots ties the record for second most in a Carroll men's soccer game.
Josh Gonzaga and
Zane Walters tied with six shots a piece, with
Ryan Coughlin and
Julius Marks coming in tied for third with five. Five of Walters shots were on goal tonight. Keeper
Tyler Hanson had almost a quiet shutout, allowing one goal while recording two saves.
Pequignot played a ball by
Anthony Buffington from midfield and shook a defender to the ground to confuse the keeper and leak in a shot low right for the score in the 24
th minute. In the 30
th minute, six minutes after entering the game, Marks scored from just outside of the goal line on an assist by Shiroda.
Edgewood snuck in a goal off a wild shot from 30 yards out in the 59
th minute to bring it to a one score game. The Pios, who had over 60% possession for the night, went back and forth with the Eagles for awhile before re-taking control again and netting the third goal of the night off a Coughlin shot from Pequignot in the 89
th minute.
Carroll continues a home stand on Saturday night with a 7 PM match up with Wisconsin Lutheran. Carroll shutout the Knights on the road in 2019 in the last matchup.
