1/23/2022 11:43:00 AM

RIPON, Wis. – The Carroll University women's indoor track and field team scored 98.5 points to come away with a third-place finish at the Redhawk Opener hosted by Ripon College. Vanessa Uitenbroek broke her own school shot put record, while Alli Spitzer and Jamie Pankratz also came away with first place finishes.

In track events, Spitzer's finish in the 800-meter run was three seconds ahead of the second-best time. Spitzer crossed the finish line in 2:26.72. Natalie Dresang added three points with a sixth place in the same event. Elizabeth Reddeman added five points with a fourth place finish in the 1 mile run, while Abby Brinkman also finished fourth in the 400-meter dash. Lexi Elegbede-Peer was beaten by just .15 seconds in the 60-meter dash, as she finished with second, and Mary Quinn finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles. Alison Klosterman added three points to the team total after her finish in the 3,000-meter run. The women's 4x400 team consisting of Hannah Bouwkamp, Brinkman, Quinn, and Spitzer took home the gold with a time of 4:19.49.

In field and throwing events, Uitenbroek's victory and school record launches her to the farthest throw in the nation thus far this season. Behind her in her victory was Maria Falk and Pankratz who added 14 more points to the Carroll leaderboard. Pankratz's weight throw of 16.74 meters bested two throwers from UW-Oshkosh, as Uitenbroek finished with a fourth in the weight throw too. Jessica Mueller collected five team points with a fourth place finish, while Sydney Halverson tied for fourth in the high jump. Quinn jumped just far enough in the long jump to add a point for the Pioneers with an eighth place finish.

Carroll will compete next week in the Chicago land area at the newly designed Gately Park in the Aurora Grand Prix.
