Carroll Heads South to Elmhurst

10/14/2022 12:48:00 PM

WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Carroll University football team gathers down in Elmhurst on Saturday for their sixth game this season and third on the road. The Pioneers will play in their third night game this season against the Elmhurst University Bluejays at 6 PM.

TEAM DETAILS: After a tough game last week against the No. 1 team in Division III, the Pioneers are looking to get healthy again and prepare for a matchup with the Bluejays. The Pioneers still sit top five in the CCIW in both scoring and touchdowns allowed heading into this week's matchup. Offensively, the Pios are averaging 374.8 yards of total offense per game, and just over 5.4 yards per play each game. Both rushing and passing have balanced for the Pioneers, as the team looks to surpass 1000 yards on the ground and 1000 yards through the air after this week's matchup.

The CU defense did not force a North Central turnover last week, but Carroll still sits third in the CCIW and 20th in the nation in turnover margin. Carroll's defense has bent on third down conversions but hasn't broken this season on fourth down conversions, holding opponents to an 0-5 fourth down conversion percentage.

PREVIEWING THE BLUEJAYS: Saturday marks the 36th meeting of the two programs, dating back to the first contest back in 1956. Carroll holds a 21-14 record over Elmhurst, but the Pioneers have only beaten the Bluejays twice since rejoining the CCIW in 2016. Carroll took down Elmhurst last season on the road in the season finale by a score of 30-28. Keon Miller had a breakout game, catching the winning touchdown with seconds remaining on the clock.

The Bluejays have not had their usual stuff this season, as the program sits 0-5 overall and 0-4 in the CCIW this year. Elmhurst ranks at the bottom of the CCIW in scoring per game and has surrendered the most points per game so far through five games. Most of the team's success has come on the ground so far, as the Bluejays average 2.7 yards per carry and 79.0 yards per game rushing. Elmhurst struggles in the passing game, as QBs have thrown 14 interceptions and just four touchdown passes so far.
