Pioneers Draw with Titans on the Road

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Carroll University women's soccer team finished their second-straight game with a 1-1 tie, this time against the Illinois Wesleyan Titans on Saturday afternoon. Elizabeth Weinberg scored the only Carroll goal.

The Pioneers (8-2-3, 2-0-2 CCIW) took 16 shots, seven of which were on goal, which was on par with the Titans who took 18 shots with 11 on target. Weinberg led the starters with five shots and Ally Scoma added two off the bench. Carroll held a 5-3 advantage on corner kicks, and Caitlin Fitzsimons won the saves battle with 10. The Pios and Titans were nearly even in possession, but Carroll had the ball 63% of the time in their attacking half.

Weinberg scored quickly into the game, scoring in the 13th minute after a corner kick set up in the box. Grace Tumilty assisted on Weinberg's sixth goal of the season. Weinberg had another shot attempt on goal three minutes later but the attempt was saved by the Titans. IWU added to the scoreboard in the 26th minute with an assisted goal that was nearly cleared away by the Pios. Tumilty and Simone Lippmann had two shots blocked at the end of the first half.

Fitzsimons faced 12 shots, six of which were on target in the second half, saving them all. The Pios took three more corner attempts and four more shots in the second half as the Titans began to pressure. Fitzsimons tallied back-to-back saves in an eight second time span early in the second half. Scoma's final shot of the game was saved with three seconds remaining.

The Pioneers will travel to Wheaton, Illinois on Wednesday, October 12 for their next CCIW game. Carroll fell to Wheaton last season at home, 0-2.
