WHEATON, Ill. – The Carroll University women's soccer team took plenty of opportunities for a chance to score, but were held scoreless on the road Wednesday night in the 0-1 loss to the Wheaton College Thunder.
Grace Tumilty led the team with four shots.
The Pioneers (8-3-3, 2-1-2 CCIW) tallied 17 shots attempts while holding the Thunder to just four all game, including just one in the second half. Wheaton held a 2-1 advantage on corner kicks and possessed the ball for 54% of the game. Catlin Fitzsimons tallied one save in the first half in her third loss of the year.
A Carroll foul led to a free kick 30-yards out from the goal. A Wheaton header in the seventh minute put the Thunder in the lead. The Pioneers took five more shots during the remainder of the half, three of which were on target but saved. Carroll played with the ball for about 71% of the first half in the midfield, struggling to get into the attacking box.
Brielle Ingalsbee started the second half with two straight shots, one of which was saved. The Pios put up 11 chances in the second half, but only three of them were on target, and three of which were blocked by defenders. Carroll took three shots and a corner kick in the final two minutes, but none of them were on target or had a chance on goal.
