Women’s Soccer Draws with Ranked Cardinals

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The Carroll University women's soccer team put up a 1-1 draw against the No. 22 North Central Cardinals on Saturday evening down in Naperville, Illinois. Grace Tumilty scored the equalizing goal for the Pios in the 75th minute.

The Pioneers (8-3-4, 2-1-3 CCIW) generate their third tie in the CCIW this season. Carroll held the advantage against the Cardinals in shot totals with 17-9. Tumilty led the group with five shots. Caitlin Fitzsimons tallied five saves including four in the second half. Carroll carried the ball for 52% of the game and held it evenly across all seconds of the field.

The Cardinals started the game on Carroll's heals with two corner kicks within the first five minutes of play. Tumilty ultimately recorded the first shot of the game that missed right. Both groups traded shots and saves, but it was the Pioneers who peppered the NCC goal in the final five minutes of the first half, taking four shots, three of which were on goal. The Pios won the shot advantage 8-2.

North Central scored quickly in the 47th minute of the second half, scoring unassisted from outside of the penalty box that went off the cross bar and ricocheted into the net. The Cardinals and Pios traded shots and corner kicks for another thirty minutes, before Tumilty's chip shot went over the keepers head, hit the cross bar, and scored to even the match. The Cardinals took two more chances at Fitzsimons before the final buzzer but the keeper kept the game tied.

Carroll returns to Schneider Stadium on Wednesday, October 19 to take on Lawrence University in the first annual Green Game for mental health awareness.
