Men’s Hoops Struggles Against IIT

WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Carroll University men's basketball team didn't shoot the ball well against the Illinois Institute of Technology on Sunday evening, falling 59-65. Eckahelo Simpson scored career-highs of 14 points and 12 rebounds for his first-career double-double. Paradisio Dante added 11 off the bench.

The Pioneers (1-3) shot just 35.3% from the floor after taking 68 shots. Behind the arch, Carroll slumped to 22% shooting making 7-31 shots. The Pios had 13 chances at the free throw line but only made four. Carroll grabbed 52 rebounds, the most in a game since 2017, 21 of which were offensive rebounds. Carroll led with 22 second chance points and 25 points from the bench, but 19 Carroll turnovers gave IIT 23 points.

The Pioneers started the game on an 11-0 run, fueled by seven points from E. Simpson. The Scarlett Hawks snapped out of their scoreless streak and went on an 18-7 run over the next six minutes of play. IIT tied the game at the 10-minute mark in the first half. IIT shortly gained a lead, but E. Simpson and Aaron Wafford helped equalize the game shortly later. Tied 25-25, Carroll's 7-4 run pushed their lead to two points going into halftime.

Illinois Tech started the second half on a 9-2 run, but E. Simpson made his first three of the game to silence the run momentarily. Tech gained a ten-point lead with 5:47 remaining on a three-point shot off a Carroll turnover. The Kobe Simpson had two second chance layups in the paint the next two offensive possessions, including six free-throw attempts, but was unable to cash in any of the trips at the line into points. Dante scored five quick points including a three-pointer to make it a six-point game with 48 seconds left, but Carroll was unable to get a solid look at the basket in the final moments.

The Pioneers conclude their five-game home stand on Tuesday, November 22 when they take on the Concordia-Chicago Cougars at 7 PM.
