Hermsen Re-Sets Shot Put Record as Pioneers Finish Third

KENOSHA, Wis. – The Carroll University men's indoor track and field team competed on Friday at the annual Tadd Metzger Invite on the campus of Carthage College. The Pioneers finished third on the day after scoring 105 points. Steven Hermsen re-set his shot put school record with a throw of 15.90 meters. Tom Mor, Peter Marra, Nathan Raatz, and Kevin Lind all took home first-place finishes.
 
In track events, Lind's first-place finish came in 6.60 seconds to beat the second-best time by just 0.055 seconds. Patrick Send collected team points in the same event as well. Raatz finished with a time of 23.47 in the 200-meter dash, while Logan Froseth, Marra, and Send earned team points for the Pioneers in the dash too. Three Pioneers the likes of Troy Burkert, Jacob Radovan, and Josh Petalber earned a combined nine points in the 400-meter. Marra sprinted past his two competitors in the 55-meter hurdles, doing so in a time of 8.13. The 4x400 team of River Sterud, Cooper Albert, Ty Termaat, and Riley McDade finished in sixth place.
 
In field and throwing events, David Burgess posted a second-place finish in the high jump, with a height of 1.85 meters. Mor posted a 11.47-meter mark in the triple jump, while also adding in a 5.70-meter jump in the long jump. Hermsen's record breaking throw in the shot put came on his third throw attempt of the afternoon, as the senior finished in second-place. Max Campbell finished in sixth place in the shot put as well. Hermsen and James Hinkley finished in second and third place, respectively, in the weight throw as the two both finished with throws over 50 feet.
 
Next Saturday, the Pioneers travel to Naperville to compete in the Heenan Invite.
