PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Carroll University baseball team lost to No. 14-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater 11-3 in the third round of Studer's Blue Wahoos Challenge at Community Maritime Park's Admiral Fetterman Field on Friday.
It was the third contest of a challenging, confidence-building six-game Spring Break road trip for Carroll, which dropped to 1-2 on the trip and 5-7 overall.
The Pioneers scored first in the top of the first on an RBI fly out to right field by
Mitchell Massino.
Benton Holly followed with a solo home run in the second to extend the early lead to 2-0.
Carroll's final run came in the ninth as
Clay Schult scored on a passed ball.
Holly went 2-for-3 with a homer and a double to fuel a six-hit offensive attack for the Pioneers.
UW-Whitewater, which amassed 14 hits, scored seven runs in what became a decisive bottom of the fourth inning.
Nick Evert took the pitching loss for Carroll, yielding three earned runs on eight hits with two strikeouts and three walks through four complete innings.
Carroll is scheduled to face Rhodes College in a nonconference game Saturday at 4:30 p.m. (EST)
