ELKHORN, Wis. - The Carroll University men's tennis team defeated Lakeland University 7-2 in a nonconference dual meet at Four Lakes Athletic Club on Saturday afternoon.
It was the first dual-meet victory of the season for Carroll, which improved to 1-3 overall.
The Pioneers dominated throughout the head-to-head competition, claiming five victories in the singles category and two in doubles.
Jack McCaffery won at No. 1 singles to lead Carroll while improving his individual season record to 1-3 in duals and 1-5 overall.
McCaffery, a freshman from Waukesha, Wis., defeated Lakeland's Nick Larson in straight sets 6-0, 6-3.
Ian Hofland, a sophomore from La Crosse, Wis., followed with a straight-set victory at No. 3 singles to improve to 2-2 in duals and 2-4 overall.
Hofland defeated Lakeland's Evan Vorpahl 6-0, 6-2.
Ryan Strupp at No. 4,
Ben Pierson at No. 5 and
Jordan Nowell at No. 6 each added a straight-set singles victory for the Pioneers.
McCaffery and Strupp combined for a victory at No. 2 doubles, winning by an 8-2 margin. Pierson and Nowell contributed a strong victory at No. 3 doubles, winning 8-1.
