Softball Splits with the Titans on the Road

The Carroll University softball team went 1-1 with the Illinois Wesleyan Titans on Saturday in Bloomington, Illinois. The Pios handed IWU their first CCIW loss this season. Kaylee Learman tied the Carroll career RBI record with two today. 

GAME 1 | Illinois Wesleyan 8, Carroll (WI) 0

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. --The Carroll Pioneers were not able to notch a run against Illinois Wesleyan pitcher junior Mardjetko on Saturday and were shut out 0-8 by the Titans.

Junior Grace Bradley (4-5) started and took the loss in the circle for Carroll (13-8, 5-2).

Offensively, the Pioneers were paced by senior Kaylee Learman, who went 1-for-2 on the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Carroll did not advance a runner past second base in the game. The Pioneers went 0-for-2 with runners in scoring position, last placing a runner as far as second in the second, when senior Madison Wagner made it into scoring position with nobody out.

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. --Four Carroll players collected at least two hits to help lead the Pioneers past the Illinois Wesleyan Titans 6-3 Saturday.

Junior Breanna Roberts (4-2) started in the circle and picked up the win for Carroll (14-8, 6-2). The right-hander went 4.1 innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on five hits, allowing no walks and striking out six. Freshman Riley Pavelka earned the save the circle for the Pioneers, throwing 2.2 innings, giving up one run on two hits, with one walk and three strikeouts.

Junior Mathena Higgins led the hit barrage for the Pioneers, going 2-for-4 in the ballgame. Sophomore Bridget Rath provided a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Pioneers got on the scoreboard first, starting in the third inning. Carroll's offense started clicking and put up six runs, including a two-run single off the bat of Rath and a two-run single from senior Kaylee Learman. Illinois Wesleyan put three runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Pioneers still held on for the 6-3 win.
