Hardin Scores Seven Times in Win over North Central

WAUKESHA, Wis. – Katrina Hardin scored a career-high seven goals for the Carroll University women's lacrosse team, to push past the North Central Cardinals by a score of 14-8 at home. Hardin with two assists combined for nine points to lead the team on 11 shots. Clara Jelacic collected 15 of the team's 21 draw controls while scoring four goals, collecting three caused turnovers, and seven ground balls.

The Pioneers (8-5, 3-1 CCIW) move up into a second-place tie in the CCIW with their third conference win of the season. The Pioneers tallied 38 shots, 27 of which were on goal. Despite 33 turnovers, Carroll collected 29 ground balls and was successful on 18-28 clears.

Hardin scored the first goal of the game after Zoe Esveldt brought the ball up after a turnover by the Cardinals. After the Cardinals tied it, Jelacic scored twice in a row within a minute of the two goals. Neither team found the goal the rest of the quarter. Hardin gave Carroll a 4-1 lead, and Lexi Kaltenberg grabbed a goal too after a successful clear by the Pios. After an Abby Stas goal, the Cardinals responded with three goals to cut the lead down to two. Jelacic picked up a hat trick with 26 seconds left in the first half to go into halftime up 7-4.

Hardin earned her hat trick two minutes into the second half from a Jelacic assist. The Cardinals cut the lead back down to two, but Hardin's fourth goal and 100th of her career put the Pioneers back up three. Jelacic and Hardin each scored again, but a buzzer-beater by NCC cut the Carroll lead to three again going into the fourth. Both teams struggled to get a goal early in the fourth, but a man-up free-position goal by Grace Brockman added to the Carroll point total. Hardin rounded out the contest with two more goals to give her seven on the night.

The Pioneers will travel to Kenosha a week from tonight to take on the Firebirds of Carthage with the implications of hosting a CCIW tournament game on the line.
