Mehrtens scored again four minutes later assisted by Josh Kovach. Mehrten's hat trick came in the second quarter after his third goal to cut the deficit to 10. The Firebirds took an 18-3 lead into halftime, where an hour lightning delay postponed the contest.

With a running clock second half to avoid storms, Isaac Williams scored unassisted early on in the half. Kovach picked up a goal to start the fourth quarter, while the Firebirds went on to win after another lightning strike ended the game with 2:00 minutes to play.
