WAUKESHA, Wis. -
Grace Krueger won in straight sets at No. 1 singles to set the tone as the Carroll University women's tennis team defeated Milwaukee School of Engineering 8-1 in a season-opening nonconference dual meet at the Jean Kilgour-Trailblazer Tennis Complex on Thursday afternoon.
The winning performance took on added significance as it was the team's fourth dual victory in a season opener in the last five years.
Krueger defeated MSOE's Karley Way 6-0, 6-1 to lead Carroll, which captured five singles matches and swept the doubles category.
Maya Gaedtke followed with a straight-set victory at No. 2 singles, defeating Hope Triplett 6-3, 6-2 for the Pioneers.
Aalaiya Jacklin won at No. 3 (6-2, 6-2),
Madison Ostrander contributed a victory at No. 4 (6-2, 6-1) and
Erin Horzewski added a victory at No. 6 (6-1, 6-1).
Krueger combined with
Ashley LaBelle for a victory at No. 1 doubles (8-1), the duo of Jacklin and
Sophia Dekker won at No. 2 (8-1) and the tandem of Ostrander and Gaedtke claimed a victory at No. 3 (8-3) for Carroll.
