Pioneers split in challenging home-court duals

Carroll swept by high-powered North Central College but rebounds with one-point victory over Concordia University Wisconsin

WAUKESHA, Wis. - The Carroll University women's tennis team went 1-1 in back-to-back dual meets at the Jean Kilgour-Trailblazer Tennis Complex on Saturday, falling to high-powered College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin rival North Central College 9-0 in the opener but outlasting Concordia University Wisconsin 5-4 in a nonconference matchup.
Carroll is currently 2-1 overall following three consecutive home-court matches to begin the season.

vs. North Central College
Carroll suffered six consecutive straight-set singles-flight losses in the showdown.
The Pioneers' most competitive match came in a gritty battle at No. 1 singles as Ashley LaBelle lost to North Central's Kaeli Smashey 6-3, 7-6 (5).
LaBelle combined with Grace Krueger at No. 1 doubles, falling in a spirited showdown 8-4.

vs. Concordia University Wisconsin
The Pioneers fought through two frustrating three-set losses in singles to round out the challenging day with their second team victory of the season.
Sophia Dekker won in straight sets at No. 3 singles, defeating Cheyanne Phillips 6-3, 6-2 to help lead the Pioneers.
Aalaiya Jacklin followed with a victory at No. 5 singles, ousting Mia Andrae 6-0, 6-2. Madison Ostrander defeated Peyton Morgan 6-0, 6-3 at No. 6 singles.
Carroll responded with two victories in the doubles category as the No. 2 duo of Dekker and Jacklin and No. 3 duo of Ostrander and Maya Gaedtke each won 8-1.
