Box Score WAUKESHA, Wis. - The Carroll University women's tennis team edged intra-state rival Carthage College 5-4 in a hard-fought College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin dual meet at the Jean Kilgour-Trailblazer Tennis Complex on Friday afternoon.
It was the first conference victory of the season for Carroll, which improved to 1-1 in league and 3-1 overall with the statement-making effort.
The memorable performance was propelled by three straight-set victories in singles followed by two critical two-point victories in the doubles flight.
Sophia Dekker won at No. 2 singles, defeating Carthage's Luana Da Silva 6-3, 6-2 to help lead the Pioneers.
Maya Gaedtke followed with a victory at No. 3, outlasting Sasha Manojlovic 6-2, 6-1.
Aalaiya Jacklin provided a critical victory at No. 4 singles, defeating Giovanna Mendes 7-5, 6-3.
The No. 1 doubles team of Gaedtke and Ashley La Belle won 8-6. The No. 2 duo of Dekker and Jacklin added an 8-6 victory.
Xingchen Liu won in straight sets at No. 1 singles for Carthage, which dropped to 1-1 in conference.
