Women’s Soccer Stumbles Against Calvin

WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Carroll University women's soccer team played well, but were unable to upend the Calvin Knights on Saturday with a 0-2 loss.

The Pioneers (2-1) had eight shot attempts, half from Elizabeth Weinberg during the game. Caitlin Fitzsimons recorded four saves despite the two goals allowed. The Pios held the ball for 52% of the 90 minutes but were unable to record much action inside the attacking box. Three corner kicks were tallied for Carroll.

Weinberg's first solid shot on goal in the 22' minute was knocked away by the Knights Keeper, but Weinberg came back soon after with a wide right miss. The Knights capitalized in the 26' minute, with a one-on-one situation with Fitzsimons. Fitzsimons recorded two saves before the end of the first half.

The Pioneers recorded a corner kick from Ally Scoma, that appeared to fall in for an own goal, but the AR deemed the ball traveled out of bounds before coming back inbounds. Calvin added to their lead with an unassisted turnaround goal on the high side of Carroll's goalie box in the 59' minute. Despite numerous substitution attempts, the Pioneers struggled to regain momentum and shot attempts in the closing minutes.

Carroll regroups and heads on the road for the first time this season, with another tough matchup against Lake Forest College on Tuesday, September 13. The Pios are looking to snap a three-game losing streak to the Foresters.
