Jake Binkowski led the defense with six tackles from the safety position.
The Pioneers (1-0) took down the Warriors with a program record 34 first downs while holding WLC to just 11. Carroll's six passing touchdowns ties a team program record for the most in a game as well. The offense put up 512 total yards over 79 plays. 217 of those yards came on the ground led by
Nick Legnaioli, and 295 through the air. Carroll held the football for over 36 minutes of play and converted 9-13 third downs while going 6-7 in the red zone. Carroll tallied two sacks led by
Helios Martinez and
Reiss Thayer.
The Pioneers scored on the opening possession of the game, with
Keon Miller scoring the first TD of the season on a wide-open dig route in the end zone. Carroll went 55 yards in 3:05. In the Pio defense's first possession of the season, they were backed up on their own 12-yard line, but held on and forced a missed field goal. Legnaioli scored his first career rushing touchdown to cap an 11-play, 80-yard drive later in the first quarter.
After surrendering a score to begin the second quarter, Raby led a drive down the field and connected with
J.R Muth in the end zone to take a 21-7 lead. After Thayer's sack against the Warriors,
Donny Parker picked off the Warriors to give Carroll the ball back on their own 36.
Jaxon Case pounded the ball in on the goal line twice for the fourth score of the night. With 1:35 left in the first half, Carroll took the ball back on their own 43 while Raby orchestrated a 7-play, 57-yard drive that ate up most of the clock that ended with a Miller touchdown.
Up 35-7 at halftime, the defense forced a three and out and gave the Pios the ball back in Warrior territory.
Austin Eichstaedt caught his first touchdown of the season on a six-yard slant route in the end zone. After stopping the Warriors on third and one and forcing an incomplete pass on fourth and one, Carroll took over from nearly the same spot as the drive prior but ended in a blocked field goal attempt.
Reed Breckheimer caught his first career touchdown pass in his first career game as Carroll advanced the lead to 48-7 just before the end of the third quarter. As Carroll gained possession in the fourth quarter,
Tyler McClain stepped in at QB and finished 4-6 for 31 yards with a touchdown to
Andrew Lopez.
Carroll will next appear in Waukesha under the lights of Schneider Stadium on Saturday, September 17 at 6 PM against the North Park Vikings. Carroll traveled to North Park a season ago and came out with a 34-26 victory. Carroll is 4-1 against North Park since 2016.
