Walters Wins it on Late Goal Against Albion

WAUKESHA, Wis. -- Zane Walters of Carroll University men's soccer helped put away the Albion Britons with a goal in the 89th minute to secure a 3-2 victory. This was the Pioneers first home win this season at Schneider Stadium.

The Pioneers (2-3) entered today's game with little rest and starters missing. Nevertheless, Carroll racked up 12 shots, including seven in the second half, with six opportunities on target. Jesper Johannassen gathered his first win with a four save performance over 90 minutes. Carroll recorded two corners and held the ball for 56% of the game.

The Pioneers earned the first goal with ricocheted pass from Ryan Coughlin to Josh Venouziou in the 14th minute. the Brittons responded with a corner kick goal after three Pioneer substitutions in the 32nd minute to tie the game.

With a foul inside the penalty box in the second half, Coughlin lined up a PK that found the top right of the net to take a 2-1 advantage. Albion continued to threaten, and tied the game on a free kick at the top of the box in the 86th minute. Walters gathered the ball around the 18 yard box and fired off a shot as the clock read 00:59. After the goal, the Britons got close with another corner kick, but Johannassen fell on the ball to secure the win.

The Pioneers' next game will stay in Waukesha, as Carroll hosts the University of Dubuque on September 14 at 7 PM.
