Pio Men Get Win Over Green Knights on Senior Day

WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Carroll University men's soccer team celebrated seven seniors with a 3-1 victory over St. Norbert College on Sunday afternoon. Kevin Ramirez scored the game-winning goal while Marti Solanellas Viellas took four shots in his first game back.

The Pioneers (4-3) are above .500 for the first time this season. The Pios put up 18 shots, with eight on goal, while the defense held St. Norbert to just five shots all game. Tyler Hanson had a quiet day, allowing one goal and recording one save. Carroll had the advantage on corner kicks and total possession.

After five shots over 40 minutes for the Pios, David Perez broke free for the first goal of the game and his second in back-to-back games. The Pios took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.

St. Norbert tied the game in the 57th minute after they received a yellow card. A pass from the high side to the middle of the pitch broke the Pio defense. Ramirez broke the tie in the 68th minute off a set piece near the high post that bounced off his head into the back of the net. Three minutes later, Ryan Coughlin scored on a penalty kick goal to give Carroll some insurance. Carroll recorded five more shots before the game ended trying to run up the score.

Carroll will have one more tune-up before CCIW matches begin this weekend, with a home match against Lawrence University at 7 PM.
