Women’s Soccer Walks Past Millikin for First CCIW Win

Four first half goals lead to easy conference victory

WAUKESHA, Wis. -- The Carroll University women's soccer team scored four times in the first half to secure a strong win over Millikin University by a score of 5-0. The Pioneers picked up their first CCIW win of the season in their first conference game. Elizabeth Weinberg scored twice in the win.

The Pioneers (7-1-1, 1-0 CCIW) ripped off 24 shots with 11 on target. 16 of their shots came in the first 45 minutes of the game. Five goals and five assists led to 15 points, the second time in the last week Carroll has recorded at least 15 points in a game. Grace Tumilty recorded six shots to go with her goal, while Brielle Ingalsbee and Weinberg both recorded five shots. Isabella Toberman stepped in at goal and got her first career win recording one save in 62 minutes. Nevaeh Darby played 28 minutes and tallied two saves. Carroll held possession of the ball for over 56% of the game.

Ingalsbee took a shot attempt in the fourth minute that was saved and deflected by the Big Blue keeper, leaving a wide-open tap-in for Weinberg to score the opening goal of the game. Tumilty took a ball up the middle with a low-side pass to Weinberg charging towards the goal to take a 2-0 lead less than 10 minutes into the contest. Ingalsbee scored on a PK goal at the 20:16 mark as Carroll began to hit cruise control. After going back and forth for another 44 minutes, Maci Bernier found Mattie Pusateri on a corner kick, who led a pass right into the feet of Isabel Kothe right in front of the goal three seconds before halftime.

15 minutes into the second half, Tumilty scored off a deep pass from Simone Lippmann as she shot across her body with her right from the low post to the top side of the box. Millikin had two opportunities on goal in the second half that were thwarted by Carroll.

The Pioneers will face their final WIAC opponent of the season on Wednesday, September 28 in Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Carroll will be hosting a Homecoming Food Drive during the game.
