WAUKESHA, Wis. -
Ryan LaBelle won in straight sets at No. 2 singles as the Carroll University men's tennis team defeated former Midwest Conference rival St. Norbert College 8-1 in a nonconference dual meet at Heyer Park on Saturday afternoon.
It was the second consecutive victory of the early season for Carroll, which remained unbeaten with a 2-0 overall record.
LaBelle defeated St. Norbert's Adam Stacho 6-4, 7-5 to improve to 2-0 in dual-meet competition and 3-1 overall.
Jack McCaffery (No. 3) and Â
David Eman (No. 4) each followed with a straight-set victory for the Pioneers, who captured five singles matches.
Luke Barter (No. 5) and
Layton Carls (No. 6) each contributed gritty three-set singles victories.Â
Barter outlasted St. Norbert's David Vandenberg 6-4, 1-6, 10-8. Carls ousted St. Norbert's Brian Colter 7-6 (2), 3-6, 10-4.
The No. 1 doubles team of
Andrew LaBelle and
Ryan LaBelle earned an 8-6 victory for Carroll. The No. 2 duo of McCaffery and Eman pulled out an 8-7 victory. The No. 3 tandem of Barter and Carls added an 8-5 win.
