Ashley LaBelle won in straight sets at No. 1 singles to lead the Carroll University women's tennis team to an 8-1 victory over former Midwest Conference rival St. Norbert College in a nonconference dual meet at Heyer Park on Saturday afternoon.
The dominant, home-court performance snapped a string of three consecutive losses for Carroll, which improved to 4-4 overall.
The Pioneers won five of six singles matches en route to the victory.
LaBelle, a senior from Mukwonago, Wis., defeated St. Norbert's Hannah Starr 6-4, 6-1 to earn her first individual victory of the season.
Kaitlin Brandl contributed resilient three-set victory at No. 3 singles, outlasting St. Norbert's Megan Pankow 4-6, 6-1, 10-2.
Makayla Counsell (No. 4),
Erin Horzewski (No. 5) and
Francesca Grimes (No. 6) each followed with a straight win for the Pioneers.
The No. 1 doubles team of LaBelle and
Maya Gaedtke earned an 8-3 victory, the No. 2 duo of Brandl and Counsell won 7-4 and the No. 3 tandem of Grimes and
Rachel Papp won 8-0.
