Chicago, Ill. – The Carroll University women's basketball team wins 92-52 against the North Park Vikings. The Pios shot 60.7% on the night, which ultimately leads to the victory. Olivia Rangel had a season-high 25 points to lead the Pioneers in scoring.
The Pioneers (10-6, 5-2 CCIW) tied their season high of 92 points during the game. This also led to the Pios' season-high 22 assists. Kate Christian led the team with 10 assists on the night, which was also a career-high for the Pioneer. Carroll made a season-high 19 free throws on 82.6%. This was a major lift for the Pios. The Pioneers grabbed 40 rebounds, which was led by Allison Thompson grabbing seven. The Pios dominated in the paint scoring 56 points. The bench contributed to this and scored 38 of the Pioneers' points for them. Megan Madsen led the Pios bench scorers with 10.
Carroll started the game with 11 free throws in the first quarter to give them a 23-12 lead. This was because of a 14-0 run with 2:26 to go in the first period. The Vikings were up 3 points before Madsen drew a shooting foul and made both free throws. This was followed by Brooke Foster getting fouled on a three-point attempt, where she made all three free throws. The Pios then forced an immediate turnover, and Foster drew another shooting foul; she would go on to make the following free throws. The Pios score six unanswered points before Christian would cap off the run with a fast break layup to end the period. The Pios kept their foot on the gas outscoring North Park by 10 in the second period to push their lead to 21 going into halftime. To open up the second half, the Pios continued putting the pressure on. With 7:33 to go in the third period, the Pios went on another 8-0 run, ending the period with Pios up 77-37 going into the final period. The two teams battled it out in the fourth period matching 15-15, but the Pios overpowering first three periods left the Pios leaving with a 92-52 victory.
The Pios push their win streak to two wins, and look to continue the streak at Wheaton College on January 18 at 7 PM in Wheaton, Ill.
