Pios Can’t Over Come Turnover Deficit

Waukesha, Wis. – The Carroll University men's basketball team loses 54-73 in the second half against the North Park Vikings. The Pios shot 41.7% from the field. However, 29 turnovers in the game, a season-high for the Pios were the downfall. Justin Steinike led the Pios with 16 points on the night.

The Pioneers (4-15, 1-9 CCIW) had a hot first half shooting 54.2% from the field. The Pios made five three-pointers on the night, four of which came from Steinike. Carroll's bench contributed 22 points, led by Evan Bland and Lamar Smith, each scoring five points. The Pios battled on the boards as they secured 32 rebounds. The Pios forced 15 turnovers and came up with eight steals. Aaron Wafford gave the Pios their defensive boost as he had a career-high five steals.   

The Pios started off the game hot as Steinike went on an 8-0 run to force an early timeout from North Park. Steinike made two three-pointers and a layup during the run. After the timeout the Vikings were able to make it a three-point game. However, with 16:58 left, the Pios went on a 12-0 run to push the lead to 15. This run was by Wafford making two free throws and three layups. Kobe Simpson and Paradisio Dante also contributed baskets during the run. The two teams would trade buckets until Carroll pushed the lead to 27-10 with 11:09 to go. The Vikings turned the defensive pressure up and when on an 11-0 run to end the half, giving Carroll a 31-25 lead going into the break. The second was all Vikings as Carroll struggled to take care of the ball. The Vikings would make a 21-0 run to open the second half. Steinike would hit his third three of the game, but it was too late as the Vikings kept the pedal down. The Pios couldn't get their offense going again and would come up short, losing the second half 23-48.

The Pios look to get back in the win column on Wednesday, Feb. 1, against North Central College at 7 PM in Waukesha, Wis.
