Waukesha, Wis. – The Carroll University women's soccer team fell 0-2 to the number 23 ranked North Central Cardinals today. This is the first time the Pioneers first CCIW loss of the season. Carroll's Ally Scoma led the way for the Pioneers with three shots; followed by Brielle Ingalsbee with two shots, one of them being on goal.
The Pioneers (8-5-2) took just six shots compared to 15 taken by North Central. The Pios were only able to get two of their shots on target. Carroll didn't take any corners on the night and was able to draw 12 fouls. Senior, Caitlin Fitzsimons faced 15 shots, making six saves in the process.
The Pioneers found themselves under pressure early as the Cardinals took one shot and four corners in the first 10 minutes of the game. North Central was able to capitalize taking a 0-1 lead at the 11' minute mark of the game. Carroll would look to get back on track but would not be able to get a shot off until the 29' minute mark, when Ingalsbee missed wide. That would be Carroll's only shot of the half as they found themselves down 0-1 at the half.
Starting the second half the Pioneers looked to have an aggressive half as both Ingalsbee and Scoma took shots in the opening five minutes of the half. Carroll would find themselves in a back-and-forth battle with the Cardinals throughout the remainder of the half. Carroll got unlucky as North Central found a great opportunity in the 87' minute to capitalize and take a 0-2 lead with just two minutes to play. This would end the game, giving Carroll their first CCIW loss of the season.
The loss to number 23 North Central is Carroll's final home regular season. Carroll will play their next match on the road against Lawrence University on Wednesday, October 18th. The game will be at 5:00 PM in Appleton, Wis.
