Waukesha, Wis. – The Carroll University women's soccer team secured a 3-0 victory over Illinois Wesleyan University in the first round of the CCIW conference tournament. Brielle Ingalsbee led the way for the Pioneers, scoring two goals, making it a season-high for the sophomore.
The Pioneers (10-5-3) took 20 shots throughout the game. 10 of which were on target, forcing seven saves by the Titans goalkeeper. Carroll was able to win five corner kicks and draw 10 fouls throughout the game. Senior goalkeeper Caitlin Fitzsimons faced just four shots throughout the game, making two saves in the process.
The Titans would look to strike first as they fired a shot off in the first four-minutes of play. After the save by Fitzsimons, Carroll would look to get into a rhythm. Carroll would do just that by firing off seven shots, before giving the Titans another look at goal. The first half was stagnant and not much success came for the Pioneers. Until the final minute of the half when, senior Jo Ueland would find the back of the net off an assist from Grace Tumilty.
The last-minute goal would take the wind out of the sails for the Titans and Carroll would look to take full advantage. Just three minutes into the second half, Tumilty would get fouled in the box drawing a penalty kick for the Pios. Ingalsbee would step up with confidence, finishing off the PK without a doubt. This would give the Pioneers a 2-0 lead and all the momentum. Pressure would continue to be put on the Titans, until in the 75' minute of the game, Tumilty would connect with Ingalsbee to give Carroll a 3-0 lead. Making it the second straight game Tumilty has had two assists. Carroll would coast to the end of the game walking away with the 3-0 victory; after being knocked out of the conference semifinals by the Titans last year.
The Pioneers are on the road for the semifinals of the CCIW Championships at Wheaton. The two teams tied 1-1 earlier in the year at Schneider Stadium. The game will take place on Wednesday, November 1st at 4:30 in Wheaton, Ill.
