WAUKESHA, Wis. - Carroll's women's basketball team shot 44 percent (27-61) from the field, including 50 percent (7-14) form 3-point range, en route to a 69-54 win over Ripon College on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers also scored 18 points off 20 Red Hawk turnovers.
The two teams were evenly matched for the first half of play, which saw Ripon (1-3) take a 14-11 lead entering the second quarter. Neither team led by more than five points in the second period. With Carroll (4-2) leading 28-24 with just over two minutes before halftime, Ripon scored four unanswered points to send the contest into halftime tied at 28.
The third quarter saw two ties and four lead changes, before Carroll was able to establish some breathing room.
Emilie Wizner connected on a 3-pointer with seven minutes left in the third to cap a 7-0 run that put the Pioneers up by six points, a lead they would hold for the remainder of the day. Ripon made things interesting by cutting that lead to three in the opening minute of the fourth period, but Carroll answered with eight consecutive points, capped by a 3-pointer from
Olivia Rangel.
Rangel finished with a career-high 28 points, to go along with five rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
Natalie Gricius added 13 points, while
Natalie Palzkill filled the box score with nine points, six rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
Allison Thompson posted four points and seven rebounds off the bench, while also blocking four shots, which moves her into third place in program history with 120 career blocked shots.
Ripon was led by Ella Ten Pas' 17 points and 10 rebounds. Bonnie Jensen added nine points and eight boards, while Natalie Rauwolf chipped in with eight points and five rebounds.
The Pios will hope to keep things rolling on Wednesday when they'll host North Central (Ill.) at 7 p.m. in what will be the first conference game of the season.
