WAUKESHA, Wis. - Carroll's football team limited Millikin to just 10 first downs and just 116 yards of total offense (45 rushing and 71 passing), en route to a 41-0 victory on Saturday in what is the Pioneers' first shutout in 18 games. The Carroll defense was relentless on this day, which also doubled as Carroll's annual Senior Day celebration. They finished the contest with six sacks and three interceptions, including two by freshman
Jahkai Bohannon, both of which came in the end zone.
The Pioneers (5-4, 4-4 CCIW) wasted little time in this game, taking the opening possession 80 yards in eight plays, capped by a
Marcus Johnson seven yard run, to snap a scoreless tie. Carroll would add another TD in the opening minutes of the second quarter when
Trevor Hancock caught a seven yard pass from
Josh Raby to double their score. The Pioneers added another just five minutes later, as
Jake Netchin scored from two yards out, giving the team a 21-0 halftime advantage.
Carroll continued to pour it on in the second half, as Raby connected with
Keon Miller for a 37-yard touchdown strike. Raby added another TD pass in the fourth, finding
JR Muth from five yards out. The Pioneers capped the scoring in the final minutes of the game when
Tyler McClain came on in relief of Raby to throw an eight-yard TD pass to
Cameron Evans.
Raby finished the day completing 18-of-28 passes for 222 yards and three touchdowns. With one game remaining in the season, Raby is just three touchdown passes shy of Carroll's single season record of 27, while also standing 174 yards shy of the program's record for passing yards in a season. Raby's top receiver on Saturday was Muth, who recorded game-highs of six catches for 73 yards and one touchdown. The Pioneers also rushed for 132 yards on the day, led by
Marcus Johnson's 58 yards on 16 carries (3.6 ypc).
Carroll's outstanding defensive effort was led by
Steven Lazaris' game-high eight tackles.
Will Campbell added seven tackles (2.5 for a loss), one sack, and two quarterback hurries. Also recording a sack on the day was
Nick Mantas,
Tim Nelson,
Clayton Huber,
Jordan Pfeiffer, and
Abe Stockwell. Other than Bohannon's two picks,
Jagger Vine also intercepted a pass.
Millikin's Matthew Salazar led the Big Blue (0-9, 0-8 CCIW) with 73 yards on 14 carries (5.2 ypc). Quarterback Aidan Lombardo completed 8-of-22 passes for 71 yards.
