Milwaukee, Wis. – The Carroll University men's basketball team came up short, losing 63-71 against MSOE today. The Pioneers shot just 36.4%, 36% from three, and 63.6% from the free throw line. Juniors
Kobe Simpson and
Eckahelo Simpson led the way for the Pioneers scoring 13 and 10 points, respectively.
The Pioneers (8-5, 1-3 CCIW) forced 10 turnovers, grabbed 40 rebounds, had six steals, five blocks, and nine assists in the contest. Senior
Tyler Miller led the Pioneers in rebounding grabbing eight and added six points himself.
Carroll and MSOE started the game off trading buckets as Eckahelo and
Justin Steinike found early success scoring the ball. The two teams would find themselves locked in a 10-10 with 14:17 to play in the half. The Raiders that would give themselves a 10-19 lead with 11:30 to play after going on their own 11-0 run. Carroll would start to chip at the lead and find themselves down 19-21 after a Miller three pointer with seven minutes to go in the half.
Aaron Wafford would then make a three pointer of his own to take a 24-23 lead with six minutes left to go in the half. Carroll would find themselves up 31-29 with 2:57 to go in the half. However, MSOE would respond with another run to take a 31-36 lead going into the half.
The two teams would struggle for control of the game coming of the half, as each team exchanged shots throughout the opening five minutes. A MSOE three pointer would give them an eight-point advantage with 14:17 to go. Carroll would respond with their own 6-0 run to cut the lead back to a one possession game. The Raiders would have another answer, going on their own 7-0 run to extend their lead to 44-53 with 10:36 to play, forcing a Carroll timeout. Out of the timeout, Carroll was able to cut the lead back down to three after making a several shots and getting stops. The Pioneers would look regain the lead but would be unsuccessful as MSOE would make big shots and all their free throws down the stretch. Allowing the Raiders to walk away with a 63-71 victory.
The Pioneers are restarting CCIW play at home against North Central on Wednesday, January 3, at 7 PM.
