HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - The Carroll University women's tennis team lost to Dickinson College 6-3 in a nonconference dual meet at Hilton Head Beach and Tennis Arena on Sunday.
It was opening competition of a challenging Spring Break road trip for Carroll, which dropped to 7-7 overall on the season.
The Pioneers' three victories came in the singles flight.
Madison Ostrander won a gritty three-set match at No. 4 singles, defeating Dickinson's Molly Michel 6-0, 4-6, 10-8.
Ostrander, a junior from Batavia, Ill., earned her third consecutive individual victory to improve to 7-6 overall.
Kaitlin Brandl followed with a convincing victory at No. 5 singles, outlasting Annabelle Armendarez in three sets 6-4, 1-6, 12-10.
Brandl, a junior from Nashotah, Wis., won her third straight to improve to 3-4 overall.
Makayla Counsell added a straight-set victory at No. 6 singles, defeating Maddie Lindquist 6-3-, 6-4.
Counsell, a freshman from Waukesha, Wis., improved to 2-3 overall.
