PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Carroll University baseball team completed the first two games of its Spring Break trip at Studer's Blue Wahoo Challenge, falling to Spalding University 20-3 in the opener Tuesday and losing to Edgewood College 13-1 in the second game Wednesday.
Carroll is currently 3-3 overall.
GAME 1
Ben Hurt Haller went 2-for-3 with a double and delivered a run-scoring single down the left-field line in the bottom of the fifth for Carroll, which finished with six hits (highlighted by five doubles) and committed an uncharacteristic four errors.
The Pioneers added two runs in the sixth on RBI groundouts by
Benton Holly and
Lane Scott.
Carroll utilized five pitchers including starter
Nolan Fehrman,
Noah Hoffman,
Roman Maguire,
Erik Jaschinski and
Luke Blaha.
Fehrman took the loss, allowing seven runs on six hits with three strikeouts and two walks through four complete innings.
Spalding, which entered the contest hovering just outside the NCAA Division III top 25, amassed 11 hits in the showdown and scored 11 runs in the top of the sixth.
GAME 2
Cole Haugh went 2-for-3 with a double for Carroll versus Edgewood.
Trevor Benz contributed the lone run for the Pioneers in the second, scoring on an error.
Carroll used four pitchers, featuring starter
Brody Meyer,
Andy Buskohl,
Brady LaMack and
Connor Kelly.
Meyer took the loss, yielding nine earned runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and seven walks through four innings.
