PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Carroll University baseball team played two more Spring Break road games as part of Studer's Blue Wahoo Challenge, falling to Spalding University 22-4 in a nonconference matchup Thursday and losing to No. 6-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater 23-4 at Blue Wahoo Stadium on Friday afternoon.
Carroll is currently 0-4 on the road trip and 3-5 overall.
Thursday's Game (vs. Spalding)
Ben Hurt Haller went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, one run scored and a stolen base to pace a seven-hit offensive attack.
Thomas Ward followed with two hits and scored a run for the Pioneers, who stranded six baserunners and committed four errors.
Casey Mir,
Eli Syverson and
Benton Holly each added a hit.
Carroll scored its first run in the bottom of the second on an RBI sacrifice flyout to left field by
Luke Blaha.
The Pioneers finished with three runs in the seventh sparked on a two-run double to left field from Hurt Haller and an RBI groundout by
Bennet Becker.
Carroll utilized six pitchers including starter
Jorge Rodriguez,
Erik Jaschinski,
Brady LaMack,
Josh Streu,
Connor Nolen and
Justin Baker.
Rodriguez took the loss, allowing six earned runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and no walks through four complete innings.
Spalding improved to 8-2 overall.
Friday's Game (vs. UW-Whitewater)
Thomas Ward went 2-for-3 and drove in a run to power a seven-hit offensive attack for Carroll, which scored two runs in the first and second innings.
Ward drove in the first run of the game on an RBI single to left field and
Lane Scott followed with a run-scoring sacrifice flyout to right field.
Casey Mir delivered an RBI double to left field in the second and Hurt Haller added an RBI single to left field.
The Pioneers used five pitchers with
Brett Buzzelli taking the loss, yielding 10 runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and two walks through 2 2/3 innings.
UW-Whitewater improved to 3-0 overall.
