PENSACOLA, Fla. -
Casey Mir went 2-for-4 and drove in a run but the Carroll University baseball team lost to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville 11-3 in a nonconference game as part of Studer's Blue Wahoo Challenge on Saturday afternoon.
It was the fifth contest of a six-game Spring Break road trip for Carroll, which dropped to 0-5 on the trip and 3-6 overall.
The Pioneers scored the first run of the showdown in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single by
Thomas Ward.
Carroll's second run came in the third as
Casey Mir scored on an error.
Mir delivered an RBI sacrifice flyout to center field in the ninth for the Pioneers, who finished with eight hits but stranded 10 baserunners.
Joey Appino contributed a triple with
Ben Hurt Haller,
Trevor Benz,
Benton Holly and
Cole Haugh each adding a single.
Carroll utilized five pitchers including starter
Connor Kelly,
Nolan Fehrman,
Erik Jaschinski,
Brady LaMack and
Josh Streu.
Kelly took the loss, allowing four earned runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and three walks through five innings.
UW-Platteville, which improved to 2-4 overall, scored four runs in what proved to be a decisive top of the third.
Carroll plays the final game of the road trip versus former Midwest Conference rival Grinnell College on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. (EST)
