APPLETON, Wis. - The Carroll University men's tennis team defeated former longtime Midwest Conference rival Lawrence University 8-1 in a nonconference dual meet at Fox Cities Raquet Club on Friday evening.
Carroll, which improved to 7-1 in dual-meet competition was powered by six gritty victories in the singles flight.
Andrew LaBelle won in straight sets at No. 1 singles to help lead the Pioneers who remained undefeated on the road with a 2-0 record.
Ryan LaBelle (No. 2),
David Eman (No. 3),
Jack McCaffery (No. 4) and
Luke Barter (No. 5) each followed with a straight-set victory.
Layton Carls completed the sweep in singles with a victory at No. 6, prevailing over Lawrence's Jackson Gross 6-3, 4-6 (10-8).
Eman and McCaffery combined for a victory at No. 2 doubles with Barter and Carls winning at No. 3 for the Pioneers.
Carroll is scheduled to face the University of Wisconsin-Superior in a nonconference dual meet at the Princeton Club (New Berlin, Wis.) tonight at 6:30 p.m.
