FRANKLIN, Wis. -
Benton Holly went 2-for-2 and drove in a run but the Carroll University baseball team lost to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee 12-3 in a sunny, warm nonconference game at Franklin Field on Monday afternoon.
Carroll, which came in riding the momentum of College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin series win over Wheaton, dropped to 12-10 overall.
UW-Milwaukee, an NCAA Division 1 program that competes in the Horizon League, improved to 14-14 overall.
The Panthers, who generated 14 hits, scored four runs on five hits in what became a decisive bottom of the first inning.
Trevor Benz also contributed two hits with
Casey Mir,
Joey Appino,
Nick Angus,
Cole Haugh and
Nick Herzog each adding a hit for Carroll.
The Pioneers collected their first run in the top of the third on an RBI sacrifice fly by
Thomas Ward.
Carroll's final two runs came in the seventh as Herzog scored as the result of a wild pitch and Holly followed with an RBI sacrifice flyout to right-center field.
Carroll utilized four pitchers including starter
Brody Meyer,
Daniel Kalinowski,
Joey Rivera and
Nate Sternig.
Meyer, a sophomore right-hander, took the loss by allowing five earned runs on seven hits with no strikeouts and two walks through three complete innings.
