WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Carroll University women's lacrosse team opened up the game against the Illinois Wesleyan Titans with 10 goals in the first quarter, leading to an 18-7 victory at Schneider Stadium. Clara Jelacic recorded eight points on six goals and two assists, while pulling in 11 draw controls. Ariana Cullam had three caused turnovers and six ground balls.

The Pioneers (11-2, 3-0 CCIW) ripped off 34 shots, including 18 in the first period, while holding the Titans to just three in the first 15 minutes. Alicia Van Dale made all seven saves for Carroll, including three in the second quarter. Despite troublesome clear attempts, Carroll picked up 19 ground balls and won 16 draw controls.

Katrina Hardin got the Pioneers going early and often in the contest, scoring the first goal, getting the ensuing draw control, and scoring the second goal moments later. The Titans tried to recover with a goal of their own but the Pios went on a scoring stretch led by Jelacic and Hardin. Hardin ended the first quarter with four goals while Jelacic had three. Rebecca Hallman and Lexi Kaltenberg got in on the action, with Hallman scoring on a free-position attempt in the final seconds of the quarter. Jelacic and Hallman scored to open up the second quarter and got the running clock started against the Titans. IWU ended their drought with their third goal with 5:11 to go in the second quarter and added one more two minutes later.

Cullam caused a turnover in the opening minute of the second half, but the Pioneers surrendered a third straight goal to the Titans, as they made it a 5-12 ballgame. Jelacic started another Pioneer scoring run that was aided by Hallman and Hardin, to add four more goals to their total, making it a 16-5 game at the end of the third. Janu Patel earned a goal in the fourth quarter, as the final 15 minutes were played with a running clock in favor of the Pioneers.

Carroll will see their next two opponents on the road, starting with a Wednesday night matchup at Carthage in Kenosha on April 19.
