OSHKOSH, Wis. – The Carroll University softball team fell in a pair of games to non-conference foe Wisconsin-Oshkosh on Tuesday on the road.
GAME 1
The Pioneers' (12-17) game was cut short in the fifth inning after the Titans walked it off, 1-9.
Riley Pavelka was charged with the loss after surrendering nine runs on 12 hits.
Carroll's two hits came from
Abby Curtis and
Sydney Raddeman. None of the Pioneer batters struck out, but Carroll left five runners on base.
Kiana Johnson had the lone RBI for the Pios.
Oshkosh started the game in the bottom of the first with a three-run home run to deep center field to set the tone of the game. The Pios tried to bounce back in the top of the third, as Johnson grounded out into an RBI that scored Curtis.
Oshkosh added to their lead with a 2 RBI triple to make it a 5-1 game with one out. An RBI bunt single made it 6-1, a 2 RBI single to center made it 8-1, and then with two outs Oshkosh walked it off with an RBI single to center.
GAME 2
The Pioneers (12-18) put together a four-run fifth inning, but couldn't hold off the Oshkosh offense, falling 5-9.
Andrea Kuhne took the loss after a start from
Grace Bradley.
Bradley went the first four innings allowing eight hits and four earned runs after facing 21 batters. Kuhne finished out the final two innings and surrendered the winning runs for the Titans.
Bridget Rath homered and recorded two more hits, while Raddeman doubled and Curtis added a stolen base with two hits and a walk.
Oshkosh was first to strike again in game two, putting up two runs on a double to left with two outs in the bottom of the first. Rath's homerun down the right field line cut the lead to one with one out in the fourth, but Carroll left a runner on base to end the inning.
The Titans took advantage the next half-inning, putting up two more runs to increase the lead to 4-1.
Kaitlyn Reed led off the top of the fifth with a single to center, sparking a run of four straight Pioneers reaching base safely. Carroll scored two runs on a throwing error by the Titans, and
Reagan Goluch picked up an RBI sacrifice fly to score
Lauren Harshbarger to take a 5-4 lead.
UWO leveled the game in the bottom of the fifth leading to the Carroll pitching change. Kuhne picked up three outs with the bases loaded to get out of a jam. In the bottom of the sixth, Oshkosh got ahold of Kuhne, scoring on an RBI fielder's choice and a three-run home run to take their final lead of the game.
The Pioneers will return to its CCIW schedule on Thursday, with a road doubleheader at North Central in Naperville on Thursday, April 20.
