Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse Finishes 2023 Season at Carthage

Kenosha, Wis. – The men's lacrosse team was looking to finish of the season strong with a win against in-state CCIW opponent Carthage. Unfortunately, the Pios came up short losing to Carthage 2-21. Both goals were scored by senior Josh Kovach in final game as a Pioneer.

The Pioneers (3-14, 0-6 CCIW) got up 17 shots during the game, with nine shots on goal. Jake Gehlfaced 73 shots throughout the game, with 40 shots on target. Gehl was able to make 19 saves. Gehl also led the team in ground balls as he grabbed a season-high six throughout the game. Spencer Lautner caused four of Carroll's nine caused turnovers on the night.

Carthage would start the game by taking a 0-4 lead to end the first period. Carroll's would still have hope only being down four goals, however, the Firebirds would get hot and continue the run as Carroll found themselves down 0-10 with 2 minutes to go in the half. In the final minute of play in the first half, Carthage would rattle of six quick shots, and were unable to find the back of the net. Looking for answer Kovach was able to find a window with under 10 seconds to go in the half, and get Carroll on the board. Carroll wouldn't be able to find any momentum from this, as Carthage came out of the half and held the Pios scoreless in the third period. Starting the fourth period Carroll found themselves at a 17 point deficit. Neither team would give up a goal, until Carthage struck with 8 minutes left to make it 1-19. Kovach would respond with his second goal on the night to make it 2-19. However, Carthage would run away with a 2-21 victory.

The Pioneers finished off their 2023 season with a overall 3-14 record. The Pioneers have a young and strong roster that will look to build off of this season and come into 2024 ready to go. The entire Pioneer family can't wait to see what they have in store.
