WAUKESHA, Wis. - The Carroll University baseball team lost to high-powered University of Wisconsin-Whitewater 14-2 in a seven-inning nonconference game at Frame Park on Wednesday afternoon.
It was the seventh home-field loss of the season for Carroll, which dropped to 16-19 overall.
The game was limited to seven innings as the 10-run mercy rule was enforced.
Nick Herzog went 2-for-3 and scored a run to propel a six-hit offensive attack for the Pioneers.
Carroll scored its first run of the contest in the bottom of the third inning on a two-out RBI single to left field by
Justin Baker.
The Pioneers' other run came in the fifth on a two-out RBI single by
Eddie Synek.
Carroll used four pitchers including starter
Jorge Rodriguez,
Andrew Stekiel,
Daniel Kalinowski and
Conor Dunlavy.
Rodriguez, a junior right-hander from Narajito, Puerto Rico, took the loss.
The Pioneers, who took a big step toward securing a berth in the prestigious CCIW Tournament for the third straight year with a critical 5-4 road victory over intra-state league rival Carthage on Tuesday, are scheduled to complete regular-season conference play with a home-field doubleheader against league-leading No. 25-ranked Augustana (May 6).
